(Episode 255: 13min 17) 1998 was a fateful year for the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race. Six people lost their lives and 42 of the 155 boats had to be rescued, after a freak storm hit the fleet off the coast of Eden.

It’s a story of survival that has fascinated Paul Kessler from The Syncretics Group. We spoke to Paul recently about how we can learn skills from the leadership demonstrated by Ernest Shackleton during his tumultuous journey to Antartica. In this edition of BTalk Australia Phil Dobbie talks to Paul Kessler again, together with Ed Psaltis, the skipper on the AFR Midnight Rambler, the boat that won the race that year.

What did Ed’s team do differently? What decisions did he make that helped them succeed, and saved the lives of his crew? Has it influenced the way he approaches his day to day work?
