What would it take for you to become the Chief Breakthrough Officer? It would be more than the usual cross-functional skills such as:

  • Leadership and strategy
  • Financial literacy
  • Marketing and sales abilities
  • Strategic relationships and negotiation skills, and
  • Relevant technology and operational knowledge

You would also need:

  • Social Intelligence — encompassing empathy, attunement, organisational awareness, influence, developing others, inspiration and teamwork
  • Ability to “think outside the square”
  • Openness to risk taking and creating a culture that accepts failure — even in your own sphere of influence
  • An ecosystem (internal and external) that supports creativity and innovation
  • The ability to draw on different minds and open up to different perspectives
